ILTA and CLOC are partnering to create a master class corporate legal professional collaboration event at ILTACON 2023 August 22nd-23rd hosted in the Swan Resort, Orlando, FL, conveniently located outside of Disney Epcot Center. “Corporate Legal Days”, a 2-day event focused on master class corporate legal professionals and key corporate legal business partners to network and exchange the current and future challenge roadmap of technology and operational planning in the multiple disciplines of law department business operations and knowledge. The Corporate Legal Track is free to attend, and additional Day Passes are available for purchase if you'd like to attend ILTACON all week.

Corporate Law Department member only roundtable discussions on current state of challenges and “wo is doing what” in the legal operations and eDiscovery space. Sharing practice information and thoughts on how to address technical or business process challenges in the areas of law firm relationship management, data analytics (business info vs. info governance), contracting within business and legal, resourcing within legal (law firm vs. ALSP), ChatGPT policy and protection, and/or other topic of interest. A pre-event content survey will be sent to invitees requesting ideas for discussion and delivery into the discussion.

9:00 AM State of the Industry Reveal

Welcome and opening remarks. Set discussion is to approach the topics to be discussed. Using the CLOC 12 Core Competencies CLOC Wheel as a guide, the goal is to set the stage for the discussions for today in exploring where law departments and business partners are finding excellence, maturity, challenge, and road blocks. In the conversation, how does the future roadmap of a business partner be developed by client needs and vice versus what do clients foresee as needing support or guidance from a business partner for the future. Within the CLOC 12 Core Competencies there are interconnected relationships in tech and service, where the contribution of building relationships is crucial and setting the goals is fundamental. The goal of these conversations are to set feedback from both sides to address such challenges and takeaway knowledge for the future.

Breakout groups based in expertise in Corporate Legal Function and Business Partner Specialty according to CLOC Wheel Levels

Foundational Level: practice management who run operational functions and with strategic deliverables on the growth of an organization and interrelate on other corporate functions – how would the standards be set, how can relationships be prosperous, what can be avoided, how is listening part of the relationship build.

Mature Level: key figures who embrace a growing and challenging market of information management and usage of knowledge for the benefit of the legal department and technology/service ecosystem.

Advanced Level: for master class, what are metrics and value propositions; how can they be achieved through partnership, expertise, and iterative learning on both sides.

1:30 PM Session 2 Roundtable – Challenges Exchange

Breakout groups based in expertise in Corporate Legal Function and Business Partner Specialty according to new areas to learn and respond to outside of Session 1. Continuation of the exchange and set out questions and answers sharable for the whole group and what are the connection point between practice areas and solutions which can be provided to set standards.

 
3:15 PM Session 3 Takeaways and Deliverables

Completion of the roundtable discussions – discus the collective feedback from the collective groups and discussions to highlight key points, what can be turned into a standard goal between client and business partner, what are high level risks, and what potential solutions to challenges would come from the feedback.

  • ChatGPT Governance and challenges in practice and policy
  • Contract Management – best practice within the organization and what tools are good for Legal vs. the enterprise
  • Practical and negotiable law firm partner rates and what analytics help drive decisions as well as service driving savings (in-house review vs. sourcing)
  • Analytics – why and for what?
  • Relationship understanding - Vendor overload and why decisions are made so slowly by a client and why the value proposition is different for industry/business type
  • Retention and info governance – challenges in operational platforms and what is the right service offering (internal vs. external resources)
  • Expertise and position changes – where do ops professionals go to grow and how does it impact the ecosystem

We're spread across 4 properties this year!

The official ILTACON Room Block covers 4 (four) properties – Disney’s Yacht & Beach Club Resorts and Walt Disney World’s Swan and Dolphin Hotels. In an effort to demonstrate effective practices in room block management and keep participation fees lower, participants should book a room within the official ILTACON block before 14 July 2023.

Attendees will receive the link in the ILTACON registration confirmation, and Business Partners will receive the link from their ILTA contact during booth selection. Rooms at the conference rate before or after ILTACON are subject to hotel availability. ILTA is not responsible for charges incurred with booking your rooms.
