Why Librarians Should Attend ILTACON

By Steven Lastres posted 07-05-2016 11:18

As law librarians continue to transition to the “new normal” of managing digital library platforms, supporting knowledge management services (including firm intranets, expertise databases, enterprise search and more), contributing toward LPM efforts, and expanding BusDev & Competitive Intelligence services, they need new avenues for professional development more than ever before. ILTACON 2016 can help Law Librarians keep up with the latest innovations and position them to obtain technology skills needed to grow professionally and take on new and evolving roles.

In addition to programming, ILTA has created a “Communities of Interest” networking event for meeting peers with similar interests, including a Law Librarians group formed last year.  An ILTA volunteer leader will facilitate an informal discussion during this casual meet-up. But more importantly, a key benefit of ILTA is being able to expand your network beyond librarians.  You will have many opportunities to talk with and learn from technology professionals and the C suite (CIOs, CKOs, and CMOs), not only during the conference, but for years to come.

Below, I have highlighted some of the programs of specific interest to law librarians, but don’t forget to go to the ILTACON website or the ILTA Conference App for many others. Lastly, If you needed any other reason to attend ILTACON 2016, the location of the conference in DC this August makes it particularly cost-effective and convenient for law librarians in the Northeast corridor to attend.
