Embracing Change at ILTACON 2016

Change is in the air. Memorial Day is around the corner and our minds are drifting to summer vacations. Sports fans are giddy as playoff action overlaps with season openers. Politicians are in overdrive in this Presidential election year. And the countdown is on to ILTACON 2016, where we will embrace change as our conference theme.

Change is inevitable. Leading change is imperative.

Technologies – and our lives and workplaces – are changing faster than ever before. It can be disruptive and overwhelming but also exciting and … embraced. At ILTACON 2016 you’ll be immersed in an environment of educational programming, vendor offerings and networking opportunities that draw on the experience and success of professionals employing ever-changing technology within law firms and legal departments.

It’s not just technology that’s changing. The business of law is changing. A multi-generational workforce is changing culture and management in our firms. And continuing to “do more with less” effects changes in business processes and workflows. Pause for a moment and I'm sure you can add three more things to the list without even thinking too hard.

We’ve all seen the ILTA organization embrace change, with a new framework to develop and share more content than ever before. You’ll see a few changes embraced at ILTACON as well. More details will follow, but these are too good not to share now:

  • Areas of focus are more in focus. We know you want to seek out and contribute content in specific areas of focus, and you’ll see a taxonomy of sorts emerge in the session search tools this year.
  • Legal Operations. Law Department and Legal Operations attendance at ILTACON has been increasing and we’re responding with a renewed focus on programming for both law firms and law departments to benefit from ideas around change and collaboration.
  • High energy keynotes on relevant topics more closely tied to session topics. And with opportunities for audience and member participation.

Thanks to so many of you who have already registered, we’re seeing banner numbers for attendance this summer in Washington, DC. If you haven’t registered, keep watching the blogs and ILTACON site for lots of good reasons to attend the premier four-day educational conference for legal technology.

The ILTACON planning committee has already been hard at work for months taking great topic ideas and narrowing them down to the almost 200 peer-provided educational sessions you can look forward to attending. The committee, comprised of 36 volunteer leaders and your peers, are actively matching great speakers to these great topics. The majority of the nearly 400 speakers each year at ILTACON are members just like you. That’s one of the things that make ILTACON such a success and one thing we’re in no rush to change.

Be a change agent. Join me at ILTACON. I look forward to seeing everyone in DC!
